Former mid laner world champion Song “Rookie” Eui-jin has officially joined Victory Five, according to Korizon. Having spent over six years in Invictus Gaming, Rookie is now taking a new leap League of Legends team in the LPL ahead of the 2022 Spring Split.
Even as a rookie, the mid laner has already met the requirements to move from Korea to China. This means he will no longer be part of any LPL teams.
Rookie joined Invictus Gaming in 2014 after a brief stint with KT Rolster Arrows, the only LCK team he ever played for. As part of the massive migration to South Korea’s LPL, Rookie and longtime solo lane duo Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok quickly became the face of Invictus Gaming over the years.
Rookie is best known for his contributions to Invictus Gaming’s 2018 world championships. Along with his teammates, IG became the first LPL team to win Worlds, with two other teams, FunPlus Phoenix and EDward Gaming following in the following years.
The veteran mid laner is currently only joining his third team in Victory Five. Recently acquired by Ninjas In Pajamas, V5 has rarely shown success in the LPL, qualifying for the knockout stages only once in its three-year history.
However, VictoryFive will have a completely new look before 2022. Rookie will join Hung “Karsa” Hao-Hsuan, Ying “Photic” Qi-Shen and Guo “ppgod” Peng. While the top laner of this lineup is unclear, with significantly bigger names and more experienced players, Victory Five is hoping to turn its fortunes around in the LPL.
